Makita 14.4V impact driver

I had never used an impact driver before and I'll admit I was skeptical! Since I had an older 14.4V Makita and I needed a second drill anyway for a big deck project, I decided to buy this combo. WOW! I don't know how I ever got by with just a cordless drill for driving screws. I tried the impact driver with 3.5" deck screws in the pressure-treated pine framing of my deck. I was absolutely amazed at how fast the screws went in, and the bit never jumped out of the screw head like it would with a regular drill. In addition, it takes very little pressure on the tool, since the impact action does the work for you. My arms and wrists really get tired using a standard drill for driving screws, due to the amount of pressure needed to keep the bit from tearing out the screw head. I suffer from mild carpal tunnel syndrome, and this has eliminated the wrist aches and fatique I used to get from using a standard cordless drill for driving screws.

The impact driver is lightweight, perfectly balanced, and a real pleasure to use. The free 1/2" Makita drill makes this the best deal around. The batteries and charger are compatible with my older drill, so I am VERY pleased. Makita make great products!

The only down side of this purchase is the noise level produced by the impact driver. It's not really that bad, but I would strongly advise wearing hearing protection when using it. Since I usually use hearing protectors anyway with most of my power tools (everyone should!), that hasn't been a problem for me.

Excellent Tool

I bought this driver about six months ago. I am a cabinet installer and use this driver five days a week. It has performed flawlessly. It fits easily into tight places and the little light, which I thought was a gimmick, has proven to be helpful when trying to get onto a fastener in dark spots. The best feature is the battery. This things runs for days between charges. I would highly recommend this driver to anyone that drives screws all day.

Best driver on the market

I use impact drivers almost constantly all day everyday working as an installation contractor. I've used all the ones out there both cordless and corded and while this can't compete with the corded models by dewalt,Milwaukeee,and Makita when it comes to speed and power with large lags it definetely blows away its cordlesss competition. This has just as much power as my 1/2" cordless dewalt which supposedly has 300 ft/lbs of torque. This isn't a knock on the dewalt either which is also a good tool,but the power of this tool amazed me. Its also very fast and the precision of the variable speed trigger also really impressed me( great for drywall). The light is also another nice added little bonus while it wont light up a jobsite its perfect to illuminate a small area without having to get a flashlight out for one screw. This tool is also very lightweight and compact and feels like an extenssion of your hand not a small dumbell like some of my Dewalt 18 volt driversdo. The box is designed smartly with plenty of space for extra bits and the sort. Also the free Mforce drill that they threw in made this an eveen sweeter dealn. All in all an awesome tool and if you haven't switched over to impact drivers from cordless drills for driving screws its time to move into the future and tyhis is definetly a great driver to do so with

Nice but quality is lacking.

The square itself works alright and I do like the way you can find so many degrees quick and easy. However I do not like whatever material it was made out of, feels very cheap. It looks like it was stamped out and instead of inspected for flaws just tossed into a blister pack and tossed on a truck. I don't know if I just got a dud or if all of them are like this but I won't be buying another to check that out.

There is a reason to pay the extra for this.

The difference between this and the dollar or two cheaper model is that all of the marks and numbers on this are painted black. Which means if you are going to be using this for more than drawing a straight line across a 2x8 the contrasting numbers will speed you up significantly. Just thought I'd throw this out in addition to all the other wonderful things that have been said about this great tool.

Can't live without it....

This is another essential item in every wood workers arsenal. Use it for layout, squaring up table saw blades on the job, check running width on a board or beam, guide for the skilsaw, parallel guide for the drill. Don't think there is a measuring tool that is so versital. The booklet that comes with the tool goes into great detail on how to use it to lay out rafters, stairs, etc. Have had one for a lot of years and finally felt I needed a new one,(some of the numbers on the old one are worn off). I also have one of the 12" "plastic" ones. Pretty tough also. Not only recommend this tool, but suggest that you've got to have one, at least one.

Pretty easy to use

Nice for the money

I bought one of these because I had a slab leak and need to figure out what direction it was coming from. The meter, seems pretty accurate, though, I have nothing else to compare it to. The tool is rather easy to use and even has a battery tester on it to test the power of a 9V. I would recommend this product for someone who is looking for an inexpensive moisture meter. It works well on dry wall and wood. The prongs can be a bit difficult to get into wood, but that is usually a sign that the wood is dry. It served its purpose and helped me find where the leak was coming from. I also lent it to a friend at work who used it to test whether or not he had a leak...It may not have a fancy lcd display, but you really no not need one in this case.

Sonin 50211S Rapitest Moisture Test Meter

great price. works well. BUT... the probe is problematic. The probe breaks very easily at the prongs. The solder joint inside the probe breaks under pressure and ruins the continuity ot the prong to the unit, thus rendering it useless. Sonin does offer a replacement probe for it however for about $5.00. Sonin ships very quickly and responds to your email quickly also. This unit is a real bargin for its price, much cheaper than its counterparts. Just be prepared to replace the probe. If the probe problem was fixed this unit would be an excellent value.
